What is Tenant Participation?
Tenant Participation is about tenants getting involved in their housing and communities. Tenant Participation is about tenants taking part in the decision making processes and influencing decisions about how Link runs its business. Link Housing needs the help and advice of our tenants in order to help us run our business, achieve our goals and make the right choices for you as our customer.
How you can get involved
There are several ways to get involved with Link housing:
Tenant Advisory Group (TAG)
The tenant advisory group is a way you can have a say in how the organisation responds to your needs. TAG’s are also a forum for tenants to raise issues, discuss options, plan actions and advocate for support to improve their quality of life and that of their neighbours and the broader community. TAG members provide feedback about how Link can improve our services and ensure that decision making at Link Housing is guided by well informed input from existing tenants. Regional meetings and Block meetings
All Link Housing tenants are invited to attend regular meetings in their area. These meetings offer the opportunity to share ideas, meet other tenants and to be consulted on key issues.
The Tenant Advisory Group, Regional Tenant Groups and Block meetings are a valuable way to ensure Link Housing are responsive to tenants’ needs and that we involve those who use our services in the planning and development processes of the organisation.
Tenants participating in their regional meetings or block meetings can:
- enjoy social aspects of participation in meetings and events (including getting to know staff and Board members in a relaxed and accessible setting)
- develop friendships with other tenants that continue to grow outside of group meetings
- provide feedback on policy/procedure/strategy/service delivery (to Link and to the Community Housing Division of HNSW)
- find out about their rights and responsibilities
If you prefer not to attend meetings, or find it difficult to leave your home, you can take part in the comfort of your own armchair through postal surveys, e-mail surveys or simply choose to be consulted over the telephone. Quite simply these options ensure that you have the opportunity to give Link as your landlord your views and be involved in decisions that are being made that may affect you or your community without the need to leave your own home.
Tenant workshops and forums
Link Housing runs regular workshops and forums for our residents. We try to pick topics that are current and will benefit all our residents. Previous workshops have included healthy eating and how the new Residential Tenancy Act affects you. If you have an area of particular interest or any ideas for future workshops that would benefit Link Housing residents then please contact us.
Recreation/fun day out
Link Housing tries to provide our residents with opportunities to meet their neighbours and get together with other members of their communities. It’s also an opportunity to meet and spend time with Link staff. We have arranged trips to the zoo, picnics in the park and tenant parties. We hope to organise a fun family day as part of our 30 year birthday celebrations. Keep an eye on our website for more details.

We’re always keen to have our residents contribute to the publication of our newsletters. If you would like to contribute an article, write a report or pass on some important information to the greater community, put it in our feedback form here and send it in.
Completing the annual Tenant Satisfaction Survey.
Link Housing carries out an annual Tenant Satisfaction Survey which is sent out to all our tenants. The satisfaction survey provides us with valuable information and feedback on all aspects of the housing services we provide and helps us measure satisfaction levels among tenants across all areas of our work.
Become a member of Link and attend the AGM
All Link Housing tenants are invited to become members of Link Housing and to attend the Annual General Meeting. Membership of Link Housing is not a requirement for tenants or stakeholders - it is available for those who are interested to be part of the governance of Link.
The NSW Tenant Network was started in 2005 to provide more opportunities for people to get involved in their housing and promote effective participation in the community housing sector. Each Housing Association has an elected representative on the Network and membership of the Network is open to all Community Housing tenants.
The aims of the Tenant network are:
- To get tenants’ organisations to come together as a collaborative group and form a network for community housing tenants’ groups
- To work towards the involvement of all community housing tenants
- To become a tenant led network
- To break down the isolation felt by individual tenants’ organisations
- To share information about successful projects and learn from other tenants’ experience
- To promote effective tenant participation in the community housing sector
- To link up with the wider tenants movement
- To encourage and support tenant leaders
- To promote educational and training opportunities to support tenant participation in the sector
- To represent the interests of all Community Housing tenants
- To comment and have input on Community Housing Division and wider government policy matters

Feedback from tenants is vital to our organisations planning and service provision. This information is used to improve service delivery, identify changes to be made and re‐examine aspects of policy and procedure. Link will endeavour to gain feedback in a number of ways including:
- Regularly seeking informal feedback from individuals about the services being provided. This will be done through informal exchanges, tenant inspections, phone calls etc.
- Regularly seeking formal feedback through surveys, evaluation, forums and face to face discussions and tenant telephone surveys.
- Asking TAG to provide feedback on any proposed operation changes
- Publishing the results of any surveys, questionnaires, evaluations and other information in its regular newsletter and website
